That's why a poster of the band takes pride of place in the centre of the lower bar. The band played their last ever Brisbane show here in 2005.
Like the Gobies, The Tivoli is all class. Imagine the Opera House in a barn and you'll get the picture. The main auditorium has an Art Deco feel with a massive wishbone chandelier and the mezzanine level with its ornate French laced brass railed balcony gives a great view of the stage. It holds 1500 punters standing, or for those cruisey sit down shows, 700 can be seated to watch their favourite playing on a state-of-the-art sound system.
Whether that's hosting big Australian artists such as Powderfinger, The Vines or top level international outfits such as Pavement, MGMT, The Eels, Dead Weather (Jack White from the White Stripes) and The Dandy Warhols.
But beyond just being a music venue, it's also has comedy (Tom Green and Julian Clary have both performed recently), ballet and burlesque, corporate launches, even weddings and Christmas parties.
Something for everybody then.
