Editorial Review
Since forming in 2001, Sydney's Kid Confucius have been melding live soul, hip hop and rock to create their own unique sound. The eight-piece band burst onto the scene proper in 2005 with their self-titled debut. Rolling Stone magazine called it "One of the best local releases of the year", and the group toured throughout the country in support. The 2007 follow-up, Stripes, was even more successful. It picked up numerous awards, received huge support from Triple J and made a sizeable dint in the album and singles charts.
A third album is now due for release and the group have their formula down pretty well by this point. There's no name for the upcoming album as yet, but the band promise to play a bunch of new tracks on their current tour.
As you would expect, the 2008 material isn't a huge departure from their traditional sound. It's not like they've suddenly become a metal band or anything. Rather, it's the band's patented mix of funk, soul, rock and rapping - only more polished. Exactly what the fans wanted.
