1-11 October 2008
Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC)
Cnr Melbourne Str & Grey St, South Brisbane

A genre that is largely defined by the type of venue it is performed in offers those who subscribe to it a much-appreciated licence to get artistic. Bound only by a stage, a mic and a wine-swilling audience to entertain, the exponents of cabaret sing, dance, joke, act and win over the patrons of dimly lit restaurants, bars and cafes wherever they may be welcome.

Brisbane celebrates the sometimes sassy, sometimes silly world of cabaret during the 11 days of the Brisbane Cabaret Festival with an eclectic collection of singers, duos and comedians performing across several of the city's cabaret venues.

In this, the eighth year of the festival, the cheek and charm of Melbourne's Tripod headlines the event with their musical comedy act that has been featured in just about every comedy slot Australian TV has to offer, while words of heartache, love, life and death penned by Leonard Cohen get a hot swing and free-jazz makeover from Monsieur Camembert.

Christine Anu and Deni Hines are the star double act at the Gala Opening Performance, Takin' It to the Streets, a two-hour show featuring some of the songstress's favourite classics and a special duet of the Doobie Brothers' good-times hit.
