Between June 5 and August 17 this year, the Queensland University of Technology Art Museum will show off various feature works from the late 1940s to early 1980s period of Nolan's extensive catalogue. Prints, paintings, and other formats will give you a feel for the many moods and styles he capably translated from mind to canvas.
Alternating between broodingly dark or coloured and cheerful depictions, Nolan visually described Australian landscapes, historical figures and his most well known subject, Ned Kelly, with a brilliant, almost whimsical, fast-paced modernist style that speaks volumes to the viewer.
With works pulled mainly from the collection of Dr Douglas Kagi, any Australian art history buff would be silly to miss this display of talented obsession with the Australian experience. Sidney Nolan managed to capture our landscape and character in an appropriately angular way that few else have managed, and this exhibition would be well worth the time of any art lover - doubly so for anyone with a passion for the Australian landscape and history.
