Some chemical barriers that may be appropriately installed to protect your property include:
Bail Dusting
A small amount of arsenic trioxide will be injected with a hand puffer into timbers found to be actively infested with subterranean termites.
External Soil Areas
Exposed soil areas abutting the exterior perimeter of the structure will be trenched, treated and backfileld and/or rod injected with a registered and approved liquid termiticide
External Concrete Paths or Pads
Concrete paths or pads abutting the external perimeter of the structure will be drilled. A registered and approved liquid termiticide will be injected into each hole and the holes filled with a moisture proof material upon completion of work.
Exterior Walls Concrete Block
Timber or Brick, exterior timber or brick or exterior block walls suspected of harbouring a subterranean termite nest will be drilled then injected with a registered pesticide approved for use in this area.
Timber in Contact with Soil
Timbers placed in a way that result in a connection between the structure and the soil are commonly known as bridges. Some examples of bridges are battens used around the outside of Queenslander style houses that penetrate the soil, wooden formwork used during the concreting process that has not been removed, or simply a timber offcut left leaning against the side of a house. When this occurs, the best method of treatment is to remove the piece of timber if it has no function, or if the wood is necessary, trim the piece of offending timber until it has at least a 75mm clearance of the soil. Soil areas abutting contact timbers will be injected with a registered and approved liquid termiticide.
Ceiling Inspection
The roof void will be thoroughly inspected for signs of subterranean termite activity and/or subnests. Badly damaged structural members will be reported to the client for referral to a structural engineer or builder.
Tree Stumps and Trees
Subterranean termites often have their colonies concealed within tree stumps and tress. The workers and soldiers of the colony forage through the soil via interlocking gallery systemsthat branch out from the base of the tree. From these galleries, termites can penetrate structures unnoticed by using concealed entry points. Where possible trees and stumps within subterranean termite foraging range of the structure will be inspected for signs of colony harbourage and treated.
These are some of the steps that may be required to control and protect your property against termites and borers. Each home is individually assessed for its necessary treatment procedures.
