A standard appointment will last for one hour. During this time a medical and family history is taken and the results of any past investigations reviewed. This should still leave plenty of time to answer any questions you may have.

The cost for a standard consultation is The cost for a standard consultation is $370 for a 1 hour appointment. If you have a referral from another doctor, Medicare will usually refund $212.00

If you have exceeded the Medicare Safety Net threshold, then an additional 80% of the gap above the Medicare rebate will be refunded to you.
If more than one family member is seen at the same time, and the other family members have their own referral, the consultation for the additional family members can be bulk billed.

Most chromosome testing is subsidised by Medicare but the same is not true for most DNA tests. The cost of DNA testing will depend on the test requested but can range from about $100 to $2,000. It is quite easy to collect DNA and send this away interstate or overseas if this testing is not available locally.
